29th
March Bournemouth 2 Millwall 0: What can go wrong
is going wrong. Neil Harris misses a penalty. Lousy finishing
is once more a feature of the game. And Richard Shaw gives
away a penalty that is converted, obviously. The second is
scored while the Lions are throwing everything forward...
...Kenny Jackett says afterwards,
“We had a great opportunity to score with the penalty
and Berky followed up with a great chance from the save, but
didn’t finish it.” No he didn’t, and another
nail was driven into the coffin lid, he could have added.
27th March Tony Craig returns
to his club as an emergency loanee. Manager Jackett says,
"Not so long ago I thought the injury crisis was over
with only three or four long term casualties in the treatment
room, but now we're back up to 13 or 14. I'm pleased to have
been able to sign Tony on loan because he is a very capable
defender at this level."
24th March
Millwall 0 Luton Town 0: The Hatters provided little
threat throughout the afternoon, but had no fear because the
Lions contrived to have their worst day in front of goal all
season - and without an attacker on the bench! Brkovic hit
the bar, Simpson missed the rebound, and a few more, and Bas
Savage. Oh Bas Savage, what were you doing? What a miss...
...A sadly
deluded Kenny Jackett says afterwards, “There is a lot
of promise at Millwall and there could be a walloping for
someone - I look forward to our final six games and don’t
see one we can’t win”...
...The club announce their
Player of the Year dinner. Rab Douglas is red hot favourite
to walk away with the main award.
22nd March
Oldham Athletic 1 Millwall 1: After being far and
away the best side in the first half, the Lions succumb to
late pressure once again. This time after taking the lead
through a Bas Savage goal. Former Lion Leon Constantine scores
the inevitable equaliser as Oldham centre half David Livermore
looks on...
...Manager Jackett says
afterwards, "We were holding on at the end and will move
on with mixed emotions. Our biggest challenge now is putting
away our chances. We had 13 players unavailable, but I wouldn't
use that as an excuse." It’s time for all the excuses
you can muster mate.
20th March Millwall sign midfield
pair Justin Cochrane and Jem Karacan. Cochrane, 26, signs
a short-term deal and tells the official website, "I'm
determined to earn a spot in the squad." Karacan is on
a month's loan from Reading. He says, "I'm really looking
forward to being here at The Den and playing in front of the
fans."
15th March
Millwall 0 Leyton Orient 1: Despite dominating, the
Lions let in their now customary ‘unamrked’ goal
before Marc Laird is sent off for a late tackle. The day is
all about the referee again though, as Andy D’Urso makes
a point to the Lions faithful by denying at least one certain
penalty...
...Kenny Jackett reacts
after the match, "We had the lion's share of possession
and even with 10 men we had more of the ball. We passed very
well but without having an end product and we didn't get the
shots in on goal that we should have done. There were not
enough cutting edges up front.”
14th March
Despite allegedly having nothing to do with the football side
of affairs at our club, Heather Rabbatts says of the season
ticket offer for next season, "We're really wanting to
reward our loyal fans who stick with us." She is not
referring to a discount however. The generosity and reward
for our loyalty in their time of need - a price freeze.
12th March Yeovil Town 0 Millwall 1:
On a windy night at the Huish, Millwall continue their impressive
form from the win at Swansea with another surprise victory.
Savage scores his first, and the Lions winner, in a game of
few chances, but plenty of Lions dominance...
...Manager Jackett says, “We started slowly and our
keeper had to make three important saves early on, but we
got to half time nil nil and I thought we dominated the second
half. I want us to play passing football with good movement
and we did that”...
...Former Millwall target/link (whatever), Russel Slade says,
“I was disappointed, after a bright start, with the
second-half performance. In the second half I thought Millwall
got on top but we had the best chances all night - even in
the 88th minute when we had a glorious opportunity to take
a point”...
...After the manager hinted that he would like Jay Simpson
to stay on a longer basis, the arsenal striker is keen to
edge away from such talk in the hope that he still has a top
flight future. Talking to the South London Press he says,
“We'll see what happens when the two clubs discuss it.
At the moment I am just enjoying my football and loved winning
on Friday.”
7th March Swansea City 1 Millwall 2:
The Lions crush Swansea’s hopes of record games without
defeat as early as the 28th second when Lewis Grabban scores.
Simpson adds a second before the home side snatch a lifeline
penalty that made little difference to what was a deserved
result against the division’s best side...
...Kenny Jackett is understandably delighted afterwards, “I
would not want to pick out individuals because it was a good
team performance and very encouraging for the future. Lewis
Grabban has three goals in his last three games now, two of
them from headers, which is unusual for a pacy striker. We
have proved we can compete with the best but we must now build
on that. The big pitch suited us. We've been inconsistent
so now is the time to put a run together...
...Earlier that day, Peter Garston is re-elected as the club’s
Fan on the Board for a further three years.
5th
March Orient, Brentford and Southend
United are all linked with a move for Neil Harris, although
you can’t help thinking they are so obvious that anyone
could have made it up.
1st
March Millwall 0 Bristol Rovers 1: Not quite a replica
of the Tranmere game, because Millwall struggle in front of
goal all game, but it was still daylight robbery nevertheless.
The last minute defeat really does knock the stuffing out
of supporters and players alike…
…Kenny Jackett says,
“We had the lion’s share of possession but we
didn’t really create enough and that’s disappointing
because this felt like a winnable game all afternoon.
