The Lion Roars Diary - June 2007

27th June After Craig's shock departure Willie Donachie moves quickly to sign left back Andy Frampton from relegated Brentford for £30,000. Willie says, "He's been in our thoughts for some time and is a very good and experienced player"...
...In a sort of two for the price of one deal, left back Scott Barron arrives from Ipswich. Willie says, "You cannot have too many good left-footed players in your squad and I am sure Scott will prove a real asset for us."

26th June In a surprising move, Tony Craig is apparently set for a switch to Selhurst Park. crystal palace boss Peter Taylor says, "I can confirm we have agreed things with Millwall and I'm hopeful it will be completed."

22nd June The Ipswich rumour mill is the first to announce that left back Scott Barron will join the Lions on 1st July...
...Gavin Grant's murder trial takes a further twist as a letter is read out in court that implicates him in the crime directly...
...The first in several - the Brighton away match scheduled for 8th September, is moved to Friday 7th to avoid a clash with an England international. Also altered is the time of the Hartlepool home match on 3rd November. It will now be at 1pm because of the Blackheath fireworks display.

21st June The first XI pre-season friendly list is confirmed: 14th July - Dundee (A), 18th July - Falkirk (A), 21st July - Motherwell (A), 24th July - Ebbsfleet (A), 28th July - Aldershot (A), 31st July - Southampton (H), 4th August - Sierra Leone (H). Yes, that's right, Sierra Leone!

20th June Derby wide-man and former target, Darren Currie, reveals that he is in talks with both Colchester United and Millwall about a move south from the newly promoted club.

19th June Graham Ferguson Lacey makes good on his promise and swaps £900,000 for 3,000,000,000 new shares in the company. As we are unaware of his motives it is difficult to tell whether this is a good or bad thing at this stage. He now owns 27.8% of Millwall Plc.

16th June Ex-Lion Teddy Sheringham is finally awarded for, presumably; services to 20 year old models, with an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List...
...Mark McGhee is appointed as Motherwell boss.

14th June The League fixture list is released. Doncaster Rovers away on the opening day, followed by a first home game against Cheltenham Town. The Lions are at home against Brighton on Boxing Day, and the much anticipated Leeds home game is right at the end. Just in time for Little Dennis to congratulate us on our promotion - if he hasn't been sacked by then.

13th June The only way the League Cup raises any interest levels is when it becomes the first fixture announced each summer. Northampton away. Great.

11th June 25 year old midfielder Danny Spiller joins from Gillingham and 27 year old striker Gary Alexander completes the confirmation of recent rumours by joining him at The Den. Alexander is a Millwall supporter and says, "Once I knew Willie Donachie wanted to sign me, there was only one club I wanted to join."

8th June Speaking to the South London Press, Derby winger Darren Currie says, "I have spoken to Willie and he asked if I was interested and I said 'Yes.' Working with him would certainly appeal. But he does understand my feelings - I have a few clubs interested and I would like to stay in the Championship if I can"...
...Jody Morris and Adam Cottrell are politely asked to close The Den gates as they leave. Morris slams them.

6th June Leeds join Norwich and Luton in an alleged race to sign Marvin Elliott, about whom, it is announced publicly, has turned down an offer of £2,500 a week.
