The Lion Roars Diary - January 2010

20th January Youth FA Cup Millwall 5 Barnsley 4: The young Lions did Millwall proud and battled through coming back from 2-0 down to win in the last minute of the game.

19th January The rumour mill has it that Kenny Jackett is looking to sign 20 yr old Theo Robinson from Hudderfield Town. Kenny has made no secret of wanting a quick striker to play up front - and he is currently in talks with a number of players who could work well with Steve Morison.

16th January Millwall 1 Southampton 1: Millwall work hard and played some great football. It was a real blessing for Lions fans who had endured some terrible performances over the festive period. Liam  Trotter scored  in the dying minutes of the game to equalise in his first game back at the Den.

15th January Chairman John Berylson has expressed his frustration at having to fight off obstructive tactics by major shareholder Graham Lacey every year. He said things will have to change if he is to carry on.

14th January  Chairman John Berylson has promised that the club's striker hunt is still in full-flow, with one "impact" target in his mind. Berylson and Kenny Jackett have have said that they want to strengthen the club's attack in the January window, though they have yet to secure their intended target. They have already gone for Southend striker Lee Barnard and Colchester's forward Kevin Lisbie but have not managed to secure anyone yet. Berylson told the 'Southwark News' this week, "There's one very substantial impact player that we're trying to work on, People would definitely take notice if we were able to pull it off. It's an interesting thing to do, put it that way."

13th January Millwall found not guilty of FA charges... The FA's regulatory commission initially charged Millwall with failing to control their supporters and violent conduct outside the ground. But after an investigation and an appeal, the club have been cleared of all charges. Millwall chief executive Andy Ambler said: "Millwall FC welcomes the verdict in respect of our club as we have always maintained that we were innocent of the charges.

11th January  Darren Ward tells the South London Press that he’s had offers to join several clubs this season - but he opted for The Den because it was where he made his name and was the best place to revive his career.

7th January Millwall’s away game with Carlisle is called off after a pitch inspection at Brunton Park. The pitch is under nearly two foot of snow and no chance that the game can go ahead. It will be another Tuesday night game, date yet to be arranged.

6th January Zak Whitbread is rumoured to be in talks with League rivals Norwich. Whitbread who has wanted to get away for a while had talks with Peterborough in the closed season. But after the clubs had agreed a transfer fee. 'Boro Boss Darren Ferguson said his wage demands were too high. (He was gone within 2 days!)

5th January  Millwall, Coventry and Norwich City have entered the race for Lee Barnard. All 3 clubs are interested in the 25-year-old front-man, who is in the final year of his contract at Southend.

4th January  Millwall sign 21-year-old Ipswich Town midfielder Liam Trotter on a one-month loan deal. Trotter spent three months on loan at the Den in 2006, playing three games for the Lions.

2nd January Millwall 1  Derby County 1: Millwall stepped up and played better against better opposition, as was expected. Lewis Grabban opened the scoring straight after the break, only to have Derby equalise within minutes. It's now off to Pride Park for a replay.
