28th February Millwall 2 - 3 Oldham Athletic: A tragic day for the Lions, as defensive errors cost the home side dearly against Play Off rivals Oldham. A terrible individual performance by Richard Duffy sees Smalley grab a lead that is extended by Lee Hughes, much to the irritation of the crowd. A far improved second half display sees the Lions claw their way back into the contest, via a Neil Harris penalty and a superb effort from Ashley Grimes, but deep into injury time, the stand out player; Chris Taylor, snatches it for the visitors after another individual error from loanee Duffy…
…Manager Jackett is obviously unhappy after the game, "You need your core players and unless you have an abundance of money you're not going to bring in players that are as good as your best players." Paul Robinson is obviously being sorely missed by the manager...
...Latics boss John Sheridan says, "I think we deserved the win because we had the better chances. We've come to a team who are riding high and won - it's a good three points for us”...
...Prior to the game Izale McLeod storms away from the ground in a huff, after a bust up with the manager.
26th February Preston Edwards extends his loan stay at Dover Athletic by a further month...
...More Bad news on the Vincent Pericard front. Andy Ambler admits, "Technically, we are liable for wages up until May. But we will be talking to both the player and the club to see what can be agreed."
25th February It's bad news for Vincent Pericard and the Lions. Kenny Jackett says, "He'll be out for the rest of the season and will go back to his club." Millwall are still however said to be picking up the player's wages until a possible return in the summer. Jackett adds, "It is very hard to find a genuine, big, centre forward, and I thought Vincent showed a lot of signs that we could play up and off him. He had a desire to play for Millwall."
24th February Cheltenham Town 1 - 3 Millwall: A classic game of two halves featuring human (refereeing) error. It is what we are told football is all about. Cheltenham are good value for their lead against a lacklustre Lions team. However, a fortunate penalty award sees James Henry put the Lions level from the spot, and goals from Grimes and Laird grab the points, which, buy the end, are fully deserved. Debutant Pericard is stretchered off during proceedings…
…Kenny Jackett says, "We've not won in five games so maybe we were lacking a bit of confidence. Hopefully that win tonight, will put that right"...
...Cheltenham boss Martin Allen says, "I thought in the first half we were absolutely terrific. We passed the ball well and moved it around the pitch. We were competitive as I've said many times recently, we didn't look like a team that is bottom of the League. We deserved to go ahead and then just after half-time we had a great opportunity at the far post to go 2-0 up. It missed the post by inches and Millwall are dangerous."
21st February Millwall 0 - 1 Brighton & Hove Albion: Seagulls boss Mickey Adams either left the night before, or that morning, which was all a bit odd, and his former charges somehow managed to sneak a victory less deserved than the one at the Withdean earlier this season. Poor finishing by the Lions in the first period provided the visitors with the hope they needed to grab a goal from nothing and hold firm till the end...
…Kenny Jackett says, "I felt in the first half we played well and should have been ahead. Second half, we couldn't find any energy"...
...After Mickey Adams is sacked on the eve of the match, former [rubbish] Lion Dean White took charge, and said afterwards, "It was a hard-fought game. The longer the game went on the more it looked like we were going to do something. As it turned out, we did. In the second half especially we got on the ball, got in some good areas and created some decent chances."
20th February Vincent Pericard joins on loan until the end of the season, from Stoke City. They are only too glad to get shot of him, but the striker says, "There were a few other clubs interested, in the Championship, but Millwall have good prospects in the long-term and I would like to be part of that." Here to stay, then.
19th February Kenny Jackett admits to the Southwark News that he thinks the title is out of reach, "I think that top place is now gone and we have a lot of work to do to keep up. But I think we are competing for anything from second to sixth." Current form would suggest he might have said, third to eighth.
17th February Millwall 1 - 1 Swindon Town: This was a poor performance that started with debatable selections from the manager, continued through some inadequate individual displays, included some lower division errors, such as that which led to Paynter's goal for the visitors, but it all culminated in the best goal we have seen since that memorable Darren Byfield strike against Rotherham many moons ago. James Henry provided the only reason to come out on a dank, dark winter’s night…
…Swindon boss Danny Wilson admitted afterwards, "I can't say that Millwall didn't deserve their equaliser. They worked hard and it was a screamer - it had to be a goal like that to deny us."
12th February Regeneration news: London Mayor Boris Johnson and Transport Secretary, Geoff Hoon, have finalised plans for phase two of the East London Line, which will be constructed before 2012 for the Olympics. The scheme will link Surrey Quays on the East London line extension to Clapham Junction, providing direct links to the City and Docklands. And the hare's running. Bound to be news soon..!
11th February Kenny Jackett adds to his midfield quota, by signing Reading youngster James Henry.
10th February The FA quickly review the incident from the previous
night and issue the following statement, "Jermaine
Beckford has been charged under FA Rule E3 (violent
conduct) for an incident on the field of play which
falls within Law 12 - not seen by the match officials
but caught on video. The FA have been advised by the
match referee [Alan Wiley] that Jermaine Beckford was
cautioned for a pushing incident that occurred prior
to the incident involving Millwall's David Forde."
9th February Leeds United 2 - 0 Millwall: The Lions pay for lacking a cutting edge up front to yet another team with a top drawer striker. The Sky cameras are there to capture the Lions miss out on a deserved point (at least) through more inept match officiating. Marquis could have been sent off, Beckford should have been sent off, and Abdou should have had an equalising penalty…
…Kenny Jackett is left fuming about the Beckford
incident, "I have seen my goalkeeper's jaw and
his eye, and they don't look good. There is a fair bit
of damage to his face - bad bruising and a cut."
3rd February Unbelievable weather conditions sees a huge raft of games postponed, including Millwall's vital home match with Colchester United. The fixture is quickly rearranged for 31st March.
2nd February A final bit of the old inny outy on deadline day. Wales
international right back Richard Duffy signs from Portsmouth
on a free transfer. The 23-year-old defender is re-united
with his former Swansea manager. Adrian Forbes joins
Grimsby Town and admits, "It just wasn't happening
for me at Millwall.
